Few little facts about Horsell
Horsell in Surrey is an ancient (pre-Domesday Book) village nearby to the more modern 19th. century Woking, probably best known because of its association with the story The War of the Worlds, written by H.G. Wells. It should also be famous as the home of the McLaren F1 HQ.
Horsell is the home of Horsell Cricket Club, whose members have included Alec and Eric Bedser, the twins who played cricket for England.
Early Lords of the Manor included Edward the Confessor (1042) and the de Spenser family (1200s). Numerous 500+ year old buildings are still to be seen, and the village still very much retains its own atmosphere amid much commonland and greenery.
'Horsell' also appears to be a unique place name, shared by no other village or town in the world!
Horsell features a number of attractions, including Horsell Common.
The Anglican parish church of St Mary the Virgin dates back to the middle of the 12th century.
